(1) WEI (pronounced "way") means "Hello" in Chinese.
(2) W-E-I stands for What-Everything-Internet, our unique catalog of radio stations that includes WHAT the stations is, EVERYTHING about the station, and the INTERNET address of the stations streaming media feed.
Why we use WEI numbers
Streaming media content providers change their URL addresses frequently, and it is impossible to maintain a listing of pure URLs without having a number of bad links.
We use the WEI number to mask the URL address so that our coders and database managers can maintain the most current and active URL behind the scenes. All you need to remember is the WEI number and you can call up a feed from any page in the PenguinRadio domain, or even by inserting PenguinRadio searchcodes into your own homepages.
How to get a WEI number
Drop us a line and we'll add your listing in our next update, usually within a day, or just sit back until we find your webpage (eventually). You can make things easier on us by providing a constant URL for live feeds (for example, www.yourdomain.com/live.html and save the complicated addresses for archives (for example, www.yourdomain.com/jan102000.ram)
Who else uses WEI numbers
http://www.phoneradio.com utilizes the same database as PenguinRadio, allowing easy entry of URL feeds into cell phones and PDAs that play streaming media. In addition, anyone interested in adding WEI numbers to their appliances are welcome to do so. Drop us a line and we'll show you how.
1) The station has reached their maximum user limit (common problem).
2) You don't have the proper software installed on your machine (check tech support for software links
3) The link is dead (common). Drop us a line and we'll fix it.
